One more politically incorrect filmmaker gets burned after complaint about tight Nigerian economy. What did Jade Osiberu say before Oct. 1?

Getting into the first week of July, it was a different film industry personality that was getting the stick over her interest in the current President of Nigeria Bola Tinubu, and now that thematic repeat is showing in a contemporary, the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards winner in the Best West Africa Movie category and that is Jadesola Osiberu.

Cyber bullies aiming at the views of the Brotherhood (2022 film) producer are making it look like celebrities have to be politically correct to keep their spotlighted positions but this time around there is a massive pushback being witnessed.

Back in July, the House of Ga’a (2024) actress Toyin Abraham, who also makes movies, might have set the precedence. This particular filmmaker found herself soaking up vitriolic comments because internet trolls did not agree with her choice to support Mr Tinubu prior to his successful inauguration 16 months ago.

The initial thought Toyin Abraham’s critics had before Netflix announced her appearance in the House of Ga'a (2024) was for all her movies and productions to be boycotted.

Marking the October 1 Independence Day anniversary under the All Progressives Congress (APC) president has come with so much pain because the economy is not doing well. Although the Nigerian leader sees progress and cites the attraction of foreign direct investment worth more than $30billion in the last year, it is not visible yet.

On February 22, 2023, Ms Abraham via her X profile saw her hope renewed and her faith in the president was reaffirmed. A year before this vote of confidence, royal blood Osiberu found the idea of someone who is frugal and adds integrity while running Nigeria as something of great value and she was thinking about Peter Obi.

But when it comes to multiplying the country’s wealth, big thinker(s) to dig us out of this economic hole are needed and for that, it wasn’t the party-throttling Labour Party Obi who was going to be able to do that according to the Brotherhood film producer.

Up until Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day anniversary yesterday, online opinions will usually favour her. She was part of the niche group that made visiting the cinemas to catch movies quite fun. In 2017, she released Isoken to theatres and has followed this up in six years with the Gangs of Lagos which premiered on Amazon Prime last year April.

On April 6 2023, the filmmaker Jadesola Osiberu was at a media to discuss her creation, the Gangs of Lagos by a production company Greoh Studios.

What Jade Osiberu really is, is a pop culture icon – the artsy scene adores her but there will be a separation when her comments don’t check with how the majority are feeling.

Maybe the producer on February 5, 2022, thought President Bola Tinubu was going to make a very good choice, but it won’t mean not acknowledging the cost of living going on right now. That is what her tweet four days ago communicated but critics were out to see that she got burned.

My to-do list is mad long but what have I been doing all day? Social media dopamine scrolling. In T-pain’s economy?! Wonderful! reads the tweet she published on September 28.

The initial 2022 post was pulled out of nowhere and was used to hound her for the fresh comment suggesting regret. Critics who called her a despicable bigot saw her as an example of spotlight figures who knowingly make what is perceived as the wrong choice when candidates present themselves for a position.

In Jadesola Osiberu’s world, no one has a monopoly over being brutal as her several replies have depicted. Tweeting one back at a profile, Orji_Okosisi1, she said you’re actually the bigot here. You’re assuming every non-Igbo person who hasn’t supported Peter Obi has done so because of tribe.

Then she adds: You idiots are intentionally being divisive and you do not love this country. Actually, you’re quite happy to see it burn down. May you fail!

When she is away from hostile social media, Ms Osiberu will usually be busy exploring new ideas for her filmmaking craft. After a busy October 1 with angry online voices fixating on her comment, everything looks like they are getting back to normal.
