Trust, and sometimes intoxicating affection, are the common factors involved when people make the extremely bold move of sharing a nude picture of themselves with others.

The recipients could be persons you are in love with, other times, it is based on artificial feelings like setting the mood for an ongoing fling. No matter the list of reasons and motivations, so many have found themselves bruised by their act of freely exposing their bodies. Betrayal sets in and soon there are regrets.

Even though things are rosy now, one must anticipate a time when feelings might go sour, ensuring that one-time lovers switch to become enemies. This is why it is advisable to consider these useful hacks while still living in the good times, so that when and if love quickly turns to bitterness, one won’t fall victim to the malice of former lovers.

Someone who is quite familiar with the various scenarios of being haunted by one’s past nudes is a Nigeria Police Force officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who had multiple pieces of advice to prevent any future regret after exposing oneself. He has given a few hacks via his X profile tweets that can save someone – let’s make sure that is not you.

• If you must send nudes, at least do one view: Thankfully, messaging platforms are adapting to the cruelty that their users face, so they continually upgrade their features to enhance protection. Part of this is the single-view capabilities available nowadays. When one decides to send out a naked picture of themselves, for instance, they can set it so that the recipient can only see the image one time. Through this, they limit the chance of the receiver keeping the explicit material on their device. WhatsApp is an example of this.

• Covering your face or an identification mark: Should one malicious ex-lover attempt to threaten you to submission or defeat by pulling out an old nude they have of you, there won’t be any way to suggest that it is truly you only if you have hidden or blurred your face from being visible. Also, leave out any permanent identification like a scar or tattoo that you have on your body. These are ways to identify you if you have mistakenly included them while innocently sharing.

• Video calls can be screen munched or recorded: Even if you have the previous points covered, any devilish mind can still possess a nude picture of you if naked video calls have been initiated. So, have this in mind before you start one. With the modern smartphone functions available, it only takes a click of a button to capture the screen. This could be happening when you were tipsy with desire and willingness to give yourself to this insidious person.

If you must send nudes, at least do one-view or cover your face or any other identification mark. And do not forget that video calls can be screen shot/recorded. For others, it is a clandestine recording of their intimate moments, of course without consent.

• Trust no one: More important than all the hacks that have been highlighted so far is never to trust nobody because people change. Someone can love you now but they hate you tomorrow. SP Hundeyin advises that you take “adequate precautions”. If all fails, he adds that one should reach the website – https://incb.npf.gov.ng, which enables one to report a cybercrime so that the police can intervene and stop your tormenter before they can cause major harm.
