The Christmas holiday showings breaking cinema records like Funke Akindele’s “A Tribe Called Judah”

While catching Akindele's film at the theatre, the audience can also see the first movie ever released by the actress, Mercy Aigbe Adeoti.

The popular Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has perhaps mastered gaining hearts and attention with her cinema releases. She is doing it this time with her 15 December film, “A Tribe Called Judah”, which focuses on the challenges of single parenthood from a woman’s perspective. 

A reflection of how well the movie is doing across Nigerian cinemas revealed up to N113 million generated from opening weekend sales. That combines with 122 million views already gathered from advanced screening and regular theatre visits. This is following Funke Akindele’s usual routine of hitting the cinema during the festive season. One time, she presented industry watchers with the second highest-grossing Nigerian film. This was in 2022 with the picture titled ‘’Battle on Buka Street’’.

In December 2020, the actress also provided ‘’Omo Ghetto: The Saga’’. At the time, this was the highest-grossing Nigerian movie. It goes to show Funke Akindele’s mastery of the art of engaging Nigerians during the festive season and leaving their minds blown with her relatable storytelling.

This particular movie ‘’A Tribe Called Judah’’ reveals the exemplary life of a single mother struggling to make ends meet with five boys. Part of the problems she must contend with revolve around basic survival and making meaningful contributions to society as a unit. A story so inspiring, capturing the hearts of viewers unfolds to see how this woman survives obstacles.

Many cinemas in Nigeria are showing this movie which came out last Friday.

While they are there, they can also see the first movie ever released by the actress, Mercy Aigbe Adeoti. It is titled “Ada Omo Daddy” and it hit the screen as the second-highest opening Nollywood title in 2023 according to the Nigerian Box Office.

Other movies coming to the cinema screen soon are “Malaika” by Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi. Then coming next will be “Sabinus: The Best Man” by the popular skit maker Oga Sabinus. The debuts are expected to happen three days before Christmas. They are the exciting spectacles whetting the appetite to welcome the star cast, Kate Henshaw, Mike Afolarin, and Enyinna Nwigwe in “This is Lagos”, dropping exactly on Christmas day.
