Chops

A cinema where you can actually eat your food

A movie date with a proper meal, good food options and more than just a bucket of popcorn to keep you company.

There is a particular kind of hunger that popcorn cannot solve. You have been looking forward to a film all week; you have finally made it to the cinema, and then you realise that what you really want is a proper meal. Not another handful of popcorn. Not just a soft drink. Actual food.

At EbonyLife Cinemas in Victoria Island, Lagos, watching a movie does not mean settling for the usual cinema snacks. The cinema offers food trays, reclining seats and a menu that goes beyond the familiar popcorn-and-drinks combination. Think burgers, pizza, chicken wraps, wings, wedges and asun. There is chicken and seafood pies, parfaits, pastries and other treats for people who would rather finish with something sweet. Ebonylife cinema lists these options among its concession offerings.

When popcorn just will not cut it

Popcorn has its place. It is easy to snack on, easy to share and practically part of the cinema experience. But sometimes, especially when you are coming straight from work or planning an evening out, you want something more filling.

This is where the idea gets interesting. Instead of treating food as something to buy quickly before the opening credits, the cinema experience can make room for a more satisfying meal.

A burger and wedges, a chicken wrap or a serving of asun can make the outing feel different. You still get the film, but the food becomes part of the plan rather than an afterthought. Of course, the experience depends on what is available on the day and which food options can be served inside the screening room. It is worth checking the current menu and service arrangements before booking.

Your movie date just got better: come for the movie, stay for the food

For couples, groups of friends and anyone who enjoys a good food outing, this kind of cinema experience offers another way to plan a date. You do not have to choose between dinner and a film when the two can be brought together.

EbonyLife Place, where the cinema is located, also houses restaurants including Túraká and Pizza Garden. That means there are dining options within the same destination if you would prefer to eat at a restaurant before or after your screening. The venue brings cinema, dining and hospitality together in Victoria Island.

There is also TASH X at Filmhouse IMAX in Lekki Phase 1, a restaurant introduced through a partnership with Filmhouse Group. Reported in November 2025, the partnership offers another example of Lagos bringing food and film together in one destination.

Sometimes, a good outing is simply about finding a place where you can do more than one thing without making the day unnecessarily complicated.

A cinema that offers more than popcorn gives hungry moviegoers another reason to look forward to their next screening. Whether you are in the mood for a burger, some asun, a pizza or something sweet afterwards, the food can be part of the experience too. The film should not be the only thing you came for.
