Ibadan, the largest city in Nigeria by geographical size and the most populous city in Oyo State, is famous for its rich cultural heritage and history. However, may a tourist are unaware that it serves as a haven for pleasure and bliss. Ibadan is the perfect getaway to escape the hustle and bustle, relax and de-stress on a budget.

Here are five exciting locations in Ibadan to visit, whether you are a tourist looking to have fun, explore unique dishes, or enjoy the full Ibadan experience.

Pentorise (GoKart Arena)

Go-kart racing is the perfect sport for people who love thrills and want to break a sweat while having fun. Pentorise, popularly known as GoKart Arena, is the place for Go-kart racing, skating, and table tennis sports in Ibadan. It is located along Awolowo road, opposite the Oyo State Housing Corporation building. According to Pepe, the GoKart instructor, Pentorise was launched on February 14, 2021.  It was originally designed for hosting events only, but as the company evolved, it introduced exciting activities like GoKart racing and skating to attract and entertain more visitors.

They have a super-friendly staff, so even if you don’t know any of these sports (Go-kart racing, skating, and tennis), you’ll still have fun because their staff will guide you whenever you need help. These activities are more fun with a group, so bring your friends along and come have some fun. However, be sure to wear athletic clothing; skirts and high heels are unsuitable as there will be a lot of physical activity, so you don’t want what you’re wearing to ruin the fun.

Ola Mummy

A full Ibadan experience is incomplete without visiting the famous Ola Mummy food canteen. Food connoisseurs come from far and near to taste their various delicacies as this canteen comes among the best in Ibadan with tasty, unforgettable meals. Ola Mummy is the one-stop for local delicacies, from the specially-made Oyo state’s staple “Abula” to pounded yam and various mouth-watering soups. Other meals like rice, beans, and porridge are also available, so if you want any of these meals, Ola Mummy is a great spot to satisfy your cravings. The canteen is located at Oju Irin, Bodija.

Oliver’s Cafe

Oliver’s Cafe is one of the most popular restaurants, bars, and cafes in Bodija. It’s one of the places you visit to hang out, catch up with friends, host events, unwind after a long day, and vibe to the music.

But what makes Oliver’s stand out is their friendly customer service that makes you feel comfortable while having a good time. Adeniji Taiwo, a supervisor at the cafe said the establishment was launched in 2019. She believes what has made them stand out and kept them in business is their warm reception— their ability to give customers “a home away from home” experience. You’ll find Oliver’s Cafe on Ladoke Akintola Street at New Bodija.

Sabo Suya Depot

Suya (Kebab), is believed to have originated from Northern Nigeria but is now popular across every state in Nigeria. In Ibadan, the Hausas are famous for grilling the best suya, which is why the most famous suya spot is in Sabo, a place dominated mainly by Hausas in Ibadan.

Located on Sabo Market Road, the Sabo Suya depot consists of various suya kiosks selling delicious suya of all kinds, including beef, chicken, ram, goat, meat, etc. People come from various parts of Ibadan to buy suya here because the sellers are famous for making the best tasty suya in the city. Since there are many suya kiosks in the location, you also have the option to choose your desired customer.

Muhammed, one of the suya sellers at Sabo suya depot who has been in business for three years, says he enjoys his job and receives patronage because his suya is tasty and affordable. This is certainly a must-see place to visit if you are a suya lover in Ibadan.

Omo Elewa

Ewa Agoyin was first introduced to Nigeria by the Beninese and Togolese people in the 1960s. Since then, its popularity has spread like wildfire across several cities in Nigeria, and Ibadan is no exception. Ewa Agoyin lovers in Ibadan know “Omo Elewa” to be one of the canteens serving the best Ewa Agoyin in Ibadan. From the aroma to the taste and packaging, there’s nothing not to love about Omo Elewa’s Ewa Agoyin.

Located around Awolowo Junction in Bodija, Omo Elewa is widely patronised by customers from various locations. According to the accountant at Omo Elewa canteen, many people order on social media and get their food delivered to their doorstep while others walk in. In addition, she says what makes Ewa Agoyin isn’t the beans but the stew.  She said, “A lot of effort and resources go into the stew preparation; that’s why it’s different from the regular beans.” So, if you’re an Ewa Agoyin lover or if you want to try it for the first time and are looking for a place to experience the Beninese Ewa Agoyin taste, Omo Elewa canteen should be at the top of your list.
