Background

Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko popularly known as Adekunle Gold or AG baby has released his latest single featuring Zinoleesky (Oniyide Azeez) after recently signing with Def Jam Recordings. The “Okay” crooner, though not new to the music industry, released the hit single shortly after he signed with Def Jam Recordings, which makes it his Debut single with the label. 

Adekunle Gold first received widespread attention when he released his single, Sade, which was a high-life cover of One Direction’s Story of my Life, after which he signed a record deal with Olamide’s YBNL nation on the 5th of March, 2015. He has been on the uprising ever since and has released many hit tracks after that, including, Before you wake up, One woman, Jore, It is what it is, AG Baby, Sinner among others.

The featured artist in the song, Oniyide Azeez popularly known by his stage name, Zinoleesky is an emerging rapper and singer who doesn’t fail to promote the Yoruba Language in his songs. He made his debut in 2019 with Marlian music. He is known for tracks like No more condition, Personal, Call of duty and Odinaka.

About ‘Party no dey stop’

Party no dey stop is about Adekunle and Zino’s successes. Adekunle in his verse, talks about how unbelievable his success is to him and the people around him. He mentioned that things are now looking up for him and he can’t believe how far he has come and how God made everything better for him at the right time. The song stresses good vibes. It has an upbeat and danceable tune, which makes it the reason for topping the charts in such a short time, despite being ousted by Davido’s album in the coming week. The track has continued to be the perfect showstopper.

The duo was unexpected and it made a lot of Nigerians wonder if the track was going to be harmoniously pleasing because of the singers’ different singing styles. Despite all odds, they were able to pull through.

Drawbacks

The music video was able to portray the diverse African culture and it further proved why our fashion trends are being copied worldwide. But, there were a few disagreements with the concept of the video as it didn’t align with the song’s message. One would expect that such a party tune would have a more lively concept but this wasn’t the case with Director K’s production.

Though colourful and scenically pleasing, it caused quite a stir of negative reactions on Twitter, with users complaining about the colours and the absence of party scenes.

Opinion

Despite the backlash the music video got after its release, Party no dey stop is a head-bopping tune that shouldn’t be ignored. It may not be number one on the charts anymore, but it is worthy of a listen.
