After the pilot oil and gas park, NCDMB spreads its wings to 3 more posts. Take ABIA, IMO, and ONDO

The strategic positioning of parks in Ikwe, Oguta, and Ilaje further underscores the Board's commitment to building communities through new innovation.

Driving indigenous companies to reach their oil industry peak is the target and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) never tires of approaching this objective through different storylines. Right now it is the recent collaboration between the Board and the Abia State government, marking a new chapter in this cause.

Conveying a message is the proposed Abia Innovation and Industrial Park (AIIP) in Owaza, Abia State, a testament to the NCDMB’s vision of creating a self-sustaining industrial ecosystem.

Spanning a vast 1,995 hectares, the AIIP is poised to become a hub for industrial, commercial, and residential development. With an investment exceeding US$1.3billion, the project is not just an economic venture; it is set to be a beacon of hope for Nigerians seeking gainful employment and entrepreneurial gigs.

The NCDMB's earlier involvement in the AIIP was at a groundbreaking event in September 2023, pledging support and valuable insights to ensure the park's success.

When the AIIP has been completed, it would leverage the rich oil and gas reserves of Ukwa, channelling these resources for the growth of the park and prosperous surrounding communities. This initiative, the way it seems, is part of a broader scheme. The Nigerian Oil and Gas Parks Scheme (NOGaPS), has already seen the completion of its pilot phase at Emeyal 1 in Bayelsa State and Odukpani in Cross River State. These parks are set to commence operations soon, marking a significant milestone in the Board’s efforts to decentralise the industry’s infrastructure and bring development closer to the oil fields.

NOGaPS, in itself, is an initiative designed to foster an environment conducive to manufacturing oil and gas components and facilitating research and development.

How NCDMB further features in this is adopting a shared-services strategy and providing essential infrastructure like power supply, and good road networks. There will be necessities like water and also waste treatment. All that is needed and useful so that businesses can feel supported, henceforth encouraging more local participation.

The strategic positioning of other parks in Ikwe, Oguta, and Ilaje further underscores the NCDMB’s commitment to realising this across various states. These parks are not just physical structures; they represent the Board’s dedication to nurturing local talent, encouraging innovation, and building a robust, home-grown oil and gas sector.

Before Abia state, the Nigerian Oil and Gas Parks Scheme had seen pilots at Emeyal 1 in Bayelsa State and Odukpani in Cross River State.

As the Board grows into this in conjunction with the Abia State government providing the next staging ground, there is the morphing of the AIIP to mean a symbol of progress, a catalyst for change readying Nigeria for a dynamic role in Industry 4.0 still loading under the fixation of artificial intelligence technologies.
