Asake, Wizkid’s ‘MMS’ joins Spotify’s 100 million streams club

Nearly two years after its release, MMS continues to attract listeners worldwide, crossing a landmark streaming figure on Spotify.

Afrobeats stars Asake and Wizkid have added another major achievement to their growing list of successes as their collaborative hit, MMS, surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify.

The milestone, highlighted by music tracking platform The Debut Hub on Sunday, places the song among a select group of Nigerian tracks to have crossed the nine-figure streaming mark on the world’s largest music streaming platform.

Released as part of Asake’s third studio album Lungu Boy on August 8, 2024, MMS quickly emerged as one of the project’s standout records. The song brought together two of Nigeria’s biggest music stars, blending Asake’s Yoruba-infused delivery with Wizkid’s smooth vocals and melodic style.

According to The Debut Hub, MMS is now Asake’s eighth song and Wizkid’s 17th song across all credits to surpass 100 million streams on Spotify. The figures reflect the strong international audience both artists have built as Afrobeats continues to expand beyond Africa.

The song’s success extends beyond streaming numbers. MMS earned a nomination in the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards, further cementing its status as one of the most successful Nigerian releases of the past year.
