Back and banging is one of Nigeria’s hit artistes, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, better known by her stage alias “Ayra Starr”. The hit artiste has debuted another lit single christened Rush. It is certified to give listeners a rush (see what I did there?)

Ayra Starr is one of the iconic African female artists redefining pop culture and restructuring what exactly it means to be an African woman in the music scene, both globally and nationally. Right after being discovered and recruited by the godfather of Mavin, Don Jazzy, Ayra broke into stardom with her debut hit song Away in 2021. The hit-single quickly created a buzz and helped the artiste gain popularity. Mavins is regarded as top tier in the Nigerian music scene as it is known to house other big talents such as Rema, LADIPOE, Boy Spyce, Johnny Drille, Reekado Banks, among others. It could be said that they have artistes who provide a little bit of everything.

After the chart-topping Away, the Starr went on to drop and feature on back-to-back hits, the likes of Sare, Fashion Killer, Bloody Samaritan, Beggie, Love Don’t Cost a Dime and Overloading.

Rush is a smoothly blended dancehall melody. It is quite different from the R&B inspired pop songs Ayra started with and it is safe to say it is a welcome development.

In a social media post, Ayra shared with the public that she took a break from music to master her craft and learn about herself and God. She went further to share that “Rush is really a description of where I am at the moment – a place of reflection, zeal and gratitude. E dey rush well – all that I’ve dreamt of is happening and I’m in the middle of it all, living my dream and it can only get better”.

The hit-track was written by Ayra Starr and Mbryo, and produced by Henri Velasco and Andre Vibez, engineered by Louddaaa and mixed/mastered by Johnny Drille. The club-banger has a vibrant sound, which is low-key pulsating and high-key melodious, it’s easy-going on the eardrum in a way that will have listeners vibing in no time.

The hit-single is a victory song that affirms the artiste’s greatness and unstoppable success.

The lyrics explain to listeners that as the money comes in a rush, she won’t lose focus on getting more. Other lines in the song seek to explain how Ayra Starr avoids hate and bad energy from her naysayers.
