Bnxn’s Omo Elewa

“Bnxn” FKA “Buju” and “Buju Tye” is the performance name the artist and crooner of Omo Elewa Daniel Benson goes by.

Bnxn began his journey in the ever-so-dynamic Nigerian music industry as a record maker and Afro-tempo singer by posting diverse covers of popular songs he had done on his social media accounts and tagging already popular artistes to these freestyles. It is not much of a shocker that soon enough his unique voice gained him an audience and, of course, popularity as this pair is known to go hand-in-hand.

Bnxn is currently a made artiste, to say the least. He is ranked amongst the high and mighty (so to speak) in the Nigerian music-entertainment scene. Some of his top hits include Lenu, Finesse, Kilometer, Outside, For Days and Feeling, among several others. The hit-artiste who is signed to Burna Boy’s Spaceship Records, took home the “Next Rated” and “Best Rap Single” awards at 2022 Headies for his hit track Feeling last year.

Omo Elewa has a slow yet upbeat vibe and a steady beat. The beat has a creep-up-on-you feeling as it startles its listener with the piano and inevitably steals attention when the beat drops with Bnxn harmonising in the background. It is the kind of song that you would want to have on repeat. As a plus, it has a slow yet catchy vibe so listeners can do a slow-dance to it.

Omo Elewa is a Yoruba phrase that translates to “beans seller”.

In the song of the day, the hit-artiste’s lyrics tell listeners a story of about himself trying to woo his new-found love interest who happens to be a beans seller. Through the lyrics, he lets Omo Elewa know that he is familiar with her mother and younger sister. He asks his love interest if she would not be interested in wearing designer brands. He did not fail to mention how much her waist makes him lose concentration and go a little cuckoo.

The lyrics go thus:

Omo elewa, omo elewa (hmm)

Sho wa?

Aburo Shalewa

Omo iya alamala (omo iya alamala)

Asisat Oshoala (Asisat Oshoala)

Agba baller (agba baller)

Justin Bieber (Justin Bieber)

Agba singer (agba singer)

Omo elewa (hmm)

Sho wa? Ah

Sho fe wo designer?

Eyan Cassablanca, ah

Ma jo bi Shakira

Wa shey gwara-gwara

Ohh, sho mo mi sha?

Benson, agba singer

Basically, what is expected in terms of lyricism in a Nigerian afrobeats.

Omo Elewa is high on its replayability value. It is one of those songs that has a tune that listeners can earworm all day long while enjoying every second of it. It is equally as high on relatability, at least a greater number of listeners must have been in a position where they had to woo a love interest, be it male or female.

The song of the day might not be the hottest track right now but it is a must-have on every playlist. Give it a listen!
