Burna Boy is back on Beats. Honestly, it’s entirely possible to dedicate the next two months to write reviews on every single song on his new LP.  Burna Boy is a staple in African and global music having worked alongside global acts such as Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, J Hus and Lilly Allen. Burna Boy’s achievements deserve to be sung from the rooftops because they are that impressive.

The artist has garnered several outstanding albums to his name, the likes of African Giant (2019), Twice As Tall (2020) and his latest album release Love, Damini (2022), which is no exception from the standard which he had set with his previous album drops. The award-winning act has several awards to his name including The Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album in the year 2021 for his Twice As Tall album, MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act (2021), BET Award for Best International Act (2019, 2020, 2021) and The Headies Award for Artist of the Year (2019) and Best Collabo (2019).

With his impressive resume done, It’s Plenty is a track from the African Giant’s last album release, Love, Damini. This track is the hook of the entire album as it sits right in the middle of the catalogue.

It’s Plenty has a general afro-vibe to it, it’s a comfortable in-between of fast-paced and slow. The artist created a sound that is a refreshing alteration of the original Afrobeat by meshing highlife’s enthusiastic sound and vigour with electronic dance music’s heavy and electric beats.

Burna Boy’s versatility has never been in question as he proves it with every song release and Love, Damini is no exception. Burna Boy’s voice is pliable, which makes it easy for the artist to stir the emotion of his listeners and speak directly to the heart of the issues he chooses to address.

The album projects all the messages and the undertone of the feelings the artist projects with each track, from the tumultuous stamina on Kilometre, to the sincerity on Common Person, and his calm mellifluence as he pilots opposite ends with Ed Sheeran on Fall My Hand, the album goes to showcase the artist’s dexterity.

Burna Boy’s It’s Plenty is a feel-good song that reminds listeners to pick themselves up in bad times and encourage each other through it all, most importantly to live life and have fun. The message of this song is conveyed best in the chorus, which goes thus ….

Gbe mi trabaye

Make you no dey shalaye

I don’t want nobody to give my matter k-leg

For this life I dey, I want to be celebrated

Don’t wanna waste my days

I want to spend them on enjoyment

These lyrics best capture the state of mind of the artist when he wrote the song. It simply says he doesn’t want complications and would rather spend his days enjoying life. It’s especially relatable because it aims to remind listeners to live the happiest version of their lives, which is what most people want.

With its peculiar take on afro-tempo, It’s Plenty is a track that seeks to highlight those little moments that make life worth living. Looking for a song to bob your head to while you face life’s challenges? Then be sure to give this track a listen.
