Catching our breath, if (when) we’re able to

It is just possible to feel relaxed without catching our breath in Nigeria. Just when a sigh of relief was heaved that the acute petrol shortage was easing and life returning to near normal, boom comes the high drama in the governing party at the centre. No less dramatic was the Federal High Court’s pronouncement that sent shivers down some spines in Ebonyi State, and cold felt in faraway Zamfara and some others states.

Can there be a time in Nigeria when we will just get on with our lives, do what people in other countries do, you know, like spoiling ourselves a little at an idyllic location, picnicking with friends and family, without the peculiar Nigerian wahala?

It is possible, as we are discovering at meiza.ng. You have to be deliberate about it. Search for cool places that are far removed from the hustle and bustle of the city, where you can chill and admire nature.

In this edition of your magazine, we have featured a location that fits the bill: Usman Dam in Abuja. Amadin Ogbewe, one of our contributors had a picnic at the dam and captured the picturesque dam and its surrounding in his excellent piece, titled: Usuma Dam, Abuja: The myth, and every other thing! Indeed, his story is like a manual on how to optimise your time. If you follow his advice, put your phone in “airplane mode” so you can get the full benefits of the time spent.

If the dam isn’t an option, for now, visit meiza.ng for loads of travel and infotainment that we’ve specially curated for you.

Hoping the pace of this week will be less frenetic, compared to last week.

Happy reading.
