Role Description

The Communications Officer position in our nonprofit organization requires a dedicated, detail-oriented team player with a creative mindset and a passion for the Arts and nonprofit/NGO sector. This role involves various communication tasks, including writing, editing, media production, social media analytics, social media content creation, graphic design, media relations, digital asset management, event coordination, and other administrative support functions. The ideal candidate possesses skills in message crafting, communication strategy development, content management across platforms, graphic design, video production, and photography.

 

Responsibilities

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Communications Officer to join our team at an art-based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women and girls through creative expression. As the Communications Officer, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission by effectively communicating our initiatives, programs, and impact to diverse audiences.

Your primary responsibilities will include crafting and implementing comprehensive communication strategies across various platforms, including social media, newsletters, press releases, and presentations. You will be responsible for creating engaging content that highlights our organization’s mission, values, and achievements while effectively reaching and inspiring our target audience.

The role will involve managing our social media presence, engaging with our followers, and developing visually compelling storytelling content to amplify our message. Additionally, you will cultivate relationships with media outlets, secure press coverage, and enhance our organization’s visibility and reputation.

As a key member of our team, you will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment between communication efforts and organizational objectives. You will also oversee event promotion and coordination, leveraging strategic communication strategies to maximize participation and impact.

  • Excellent Written and Verbal Communication: Ability to articulate the organization’s mission and goals effectively through various communication channels, including newsletters, press releases, social media, and presentations.
  • Creativity and Visual Storytelling: Proficiency in developing compelling visual content, such as graphics, videos, and infographics, to engage and inspire the target audience.
  • Social Media Management: Experience managing social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) to increase visibility, engage followers, and promote events, campaigns, and initiatives.
  • Media Relations: Strong relationship-building skills to cultivate partnerships with media outlets, secure press coverage, and enhance the organization’s visibility and reputation.
  • Content Creation and Editing: Ability to generate engaging content for various platforms, including website copy, blog posts, newsletters, and marketing materials, while ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Digital Marketing: Knowledge of digital marketing strategies and tools to develop and implement effective online campaigns, including email marketing, SEO, and Google Analytics.
  • Community Engagement: Proven track record of fostering meaningful connections with diverse communities and stakeholders to amplify the organization’s impact and reach.
  • Event Promotion and Coordination: Experience promoting and coordinating events, workshops, and fundraisers through targeted communication strategies to maximize attendance and participation.
  • Strategic Planning and Evaluation: Ability to develop and execute communication plans aligned with organizational objectives, monitor performance metrics, and adapt strategies based on insights and feedback.

Education:

  • The ideal candidate is a graduate in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, digital filmmaking, digital media, graphic design or a development-related field.
  • Minimum of a Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
