Davido and his wife welcoming twins felt supernatural

The birth of Davido's twins comes a year after losing his three-year-old son in a swimming pool drowning.

It is a sort of a supernatural experience for the Afropop singer, David Adeleke ‘Davido’ after welcoming the birth of twins with his partner, Chioma Rowland, a chef.

This time in October 2022, the singer was thrown into an unexpected state of grief when his 3-year-old son Ifeanyi sadly drowned in a swimming pool at his Banana island mansion. It was an event that made a recluse out of Davido for a minute. Being a recluse meant staying away from social media, which translated to less contact with fans and the entertainment world.

But it was only going to be a blip. The pop star was bouncing up with an athletic spring. Although things have been difficult, a climax was on the horizon. There was going to be a rebirth – in his songs, you get more visions of unending motivation like the waterfall.

Even in his latest Timeless (2023) album, any trace of grief had disappeared. Fans didn’t get the remarkably personal account they were expecting, they got a party. Considering his huge commercial value, Davido was definitely one to be speaking at a mixer put together by the U.S-based music distribution company UnitedMasters for instance.

When speaking on Saturday 14 October at the New York City’s Terminal 5 venue, where he was a panelist at the UnitedMasters SelectCon 005 gig with record executive Steve Stoute, Davido revealed how much it was an absolute shock when it became known that he and his wife were expecting twins.

When my wife and I found out, we were shaking, and it was in the same month my son passed.

“My son passed away last year in October, and my wife gave birth this year in October.”

Last week, it first felt like a rumour that the singer had been presented with twins. Clips online later confirmed that chef Chioma’s delivery had happened in the United States where she was shown in a wheelchair. Such a new beautiful story being told for sure.

There is no shortage of optimism and courage when Davido is the subject of any conversation. When sympathisers worked out a candlelight procession in memory of the late singer Mohbad, he was somewhere in the crowd lending support.

On Timeless, his fourth studio album which dropped on 31 March, there was a feeling of looking way ahead as well as the awareness of his strength as an artiste. His influence transcends music but it is where the focus needs to be now seven months into the album.

Where it all began on Timeless was Over Dem, where he is the Mufasa, if you like, of all his affairs. Like he should, no doubt. Then the beat goes on and explores other emotions, like so much loving for a sweetheart and just really wanting fans to bang on their eardrums and groove.

It is the common appreciation of a woman that echoes in his songs. He had assured them, so now he delivers even bigger passion. Look no further than E Pain Me to get a feel.

The album ends on the 17th track with the Sepitori rapper Focalistic. With a spray of the Amapiano vibe, they do the Champion Sound.
