Eh, God. A review

When Kizz Daniel said he had no bad songs, we were skeptical. But, over four LPs, he has proven that he is indubitably talented. Eh God is evidence of this talent.

The third song off his fourth studio album has head-bobbing Afro beats that smoothly blend with catchy percussions and a snappy chant-like chorus. In a deviation from his usually raunchy/romantic lyrics, Eh God‘ is a prayer, a plea to God for success and protection while Kizz Daniel, who has gotten the reputation of being something of a loner in the music industry, compares himself to the biblical Barnabas who struck out on his own to find his path.

Eh, God crooner

Eh God represents the prayer on the lips of the average young Nigerian. While it is in no way a political song or an indictment of the current state of affairs in the country, it still touches on the rising prices of goods and the hopes of every young hustling Nigerian to be so successful that it will not be a problem, no matter how high the prices rise.

How does Eh God measure up to the rest of Kizz Daniel’s work? It stacks up nicely.

While the lyrics are not as explicit or as amorous as his usual fare, the beat is not as reverational as one would expect, given the lyrics. Instead, the pious-ish lyrics are blended with a mid-tempo bouncy beat that can be played and danced to comfortably at any club. Eh God is incredibly versatile.
