Heartbroken music scene mourns Mohbad although struggles continue even in death

A bit of darkness has overshadowed the bright music scene in Nigeria after the passing of a rapper Mohbad, who was nursing an ear infection.

The death of rapper, Mohbad at the tender age of 27, has brought on a sad mood for everyone connected to the Nigerian music scene, artists and fans alike.

Mohbad reportedly passed away on Tuesday, September 12, a post shared through his Instagram page confirmed. Here is what the post reads:

“It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Promise Oladimeji Aloba PK/A Mohbad (Imole) today, the 12th of September, 2023.

“Mohbad was a light until the very end, and as we mourn the loss of the brightness he carried, the family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time. Imole is finally at peace.”

According to many media reports, the late rapper died while treating an ear infection. Since his passing, there have been online conversations about his past struggles, with the focus being on conflict with former manager Naira Marley, and attempted suicide effort.

But that hasn’t stopped several broken heart emoticons from circulating the social media space. Many came from rappers like Falz and Blaqbonez who appear to be shocked after learning that he is no more.

MohBad’s journey into the limelight fully began after dropping an EP titled “Light” in 2020. The project was released under a year after a record deal with Marlian Records World started. “Light” is an eight-track album that was mainly produced by Naira Marley who also featured on tracks alongside Davido and Lil Kesh.

Sadly, MohBad faced many issues, including with law enforcement and infighting among crew members that limited him from reaching his full potential. The struggle continues even in death where a bunch of angry youths demanding money are said to have obstructed his burial plans at a Lagos district cemetery.
