All it took to break longest distance covered by Nigeria-made electric auto-rickshaw Guinness World Records

Naijamade dives into the world of exceptional records with their varying purposes for the umpteenth time. Here is looking at how a Nigerian-made special rickshaw engine pulled off a 347-kilometre close circuit milestone with the Teak EV’s state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery technology it was made to run on over a 12-hour duration.

With so much emphasis on transitioning from carbon-based transport in Nigeria growing ever strong, vehicle manufacturers want to outdo each other’s ingenuity and that is where Sekinat Taiwo enters with a Guinness World Records winner mark after riding a 347-kilometre closed circuit at the National Theatre in Lagos on an an electric rickshaw newly manufactured.

This means in the near future, most engines in the country will be powered by either compressed natural gas, solar or wind if a user isn’t already letting any of the electric vehicles they own take them to a desired destination.

It is the change-driven Qoray Mobility and Energies Limited that looks ready at the moment.

With electric vehicles plying Nigerian cities in addition with different types of cleaner energy mix comes relief from costly premium motor spirit or diesel and Qoray wants to play several roles to actualise this imminence.

Over the past weekend on Saturday 25 January 2025, Miss Taiwo a cyclist was to help the Panther automobile maker catch the world’s attention in the image of Guinness World Records Carl Saville the adjudicator who reportedly certified the achievement.

Saville has had quite an impressive career as a linesman who makes sure rules are followed whenever a Guinness Records attempt is being staged, like recently in Lagos.

And so, in a cordoned area of the national theatre, all sides got to slot themselves as characters entering into a historic moment, especially the organiser Qoray.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer Olabanjo Alimi had this to say in a Monday press release. This achievement lays the foundation for clean, accessible, and efficient transportation driven by solutions that come from the heart of Africa.

He said that the historic event was made possible through the collaboration of key partners like the theatre for example. There were several mock tests according to Mr Alimi before the record was broken.

Initially, the aim was to cover 250 kilometres under a 12-hour window but cyclist Taiwo saw herself going beyond that with her spectacular delivery.

The press statement yesterday described her as one whose remarkable achievement sends a clear message: African solutions, powered by innovation, can rival the best on the global stage.

Maybe an official Guinness World Records confirmation would come next via the GWR’s homepage and socials.

After the evidence that a task has been completed gets to the presiding judges, what usually follows is a review period lasting for at least 12weeks although it could be longer.
