A 2021 reconciliation between the Psquare brothers Peter and Paul Okoye looked to have been sealed based on a warm display of bromance that social media cameras captured in mid-November of that year. The gains made by the pop stars ending their half a decade of infighting looked like has started to suffer a decline again, so maybe timely mediation by a political bigwig can help mend new cracks early enough.

That is exactly what observers think it is – a vital effort to deliver Psquare from their sibling rivalry, which is being led by the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 Presidential General Election Mr Peter Obi. It is happening two days after a rant by Peter of Psquare accusing his twin sibling of collaborating with their older brother Jude, who also doubled as a talent manager, to deprive him of royalty benefits.

In his open letter and tweets posted via X on Monday 12 August 2024, Peter, who claims credit for Psquare’s most exceptional songs, wondered why his brothers were against him, particularly Paul whom he shares no animosity although he tries to bring him down through his utterances.

Having endured a misrepresentation of his personality in the public space for far too long, the musician Peter felt it was time to open up and defend his character before it gets completely shattered. This was the aim of the approximately 700-word post – a message to Paul to eschew their disunity as time ticks.

Every time I have spoken in interviews about P-SQUARE, I have always used “we” and “us” because I saw us as a team. But whenever you speak, it’s always “I” and “me,” even when I’m standing right beside you. It’s as if I never existed, Peter’s letter partly reads.

Getting spiritual about their plight, he adds: My brother, neither of us is the most talented artist in the world, but you fail to understand that God gave us this talent and even granted us another chance to excel after our last breakup. Instead, you chose to turn the most awarded and decorated music group in Africa into a laughingstock again.

Some fans of the pop stars, who initially only had half of the picture because they weren’t insiders, after reading the post, now felt motivated to ride the Peter Psquare bandwagon. They encouraged him to speak out before the mental stress of the internal feud struck a big blow.

Many audiences in the background are keenly following things and were moved to see Peter Obi pay a visit to Psquare, although only one side of the group has announced this. The appreciation went alongside pictures showing Mr Obi chatting to Paul and Jude in a living room area while the TV was on. When the suspected reconciliation mission was drawing to a close, the smiles stayed on heading out to the exit to see the guest back to a departing SUV, which closed a 26-second video clip.

Maybe shared affinity will be sufficient to reverse the fresh discordance that just broke within Psquare so fans can get back to focusing on their music and they too, on being brothers once again.
