NAFDAC seals Shine Shine Skincare over unsafe bleaching products
NAFDAC busts Lagos skincare factory producing bleaching creams disguised as “organic” products

Everyone wants that “glass skin” look Shine Shine Skincare flaunted online. But what NAFDAC found in their Lagos factory was far from the flawless image the brand sold. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clamped down on a popular cosmetic brand, Shine Shine Skincare, after uncovering an illegal production facility in Agege, Lagos State.
Officials who led the operation discovered that the brand, known for its 100,000-strong Instagram following, was manufacturing unregistered bleaching products under poor and unsafe conditions.
Although the items were marketed as “organic” and safe, NAFDAC revealed that the products, which include Peeling White Scrub, Glass Scrub Wash, Antiaging Radiant Glow, and Customised Whitening Black Soap, contained harmful substances banned in regulated cosmetics.

In a statement released on its official X account on Sunday, the agency warned that these deceptively formulated products pose grave health risks.
“Investigations revealed that such deceptively formulated products often contain unsafe levels of banned substances, including corticosteroid-based bleaching agents, which can cause severe health risks such as skin thinning, delayed healing, and increased vulnerability to injury,” the statement read.
The move comes amid growing concerns about the booming market for skin-lightening products in Nigeria, where many consumers are swayed by social media influencers and brands claiming to offer quick fixes for beauty.
NAFDAC urged Nigerians to exercise caution when buying cosmetics and other regulated products, stressing that only certified brands guarantee safety.
