Naira Marley’s “girls just wanna have funds” is for the Now!

Popular “bad boy” and captain of the infamous fan-ship Marlians, Azeez Adeshina Fashola better known by his performance name Naira Marley is back with yet another blazing hot single tagged Girls just wanna have funds.

Naira Marley is not a name that needs a major introduction as he is well known for his numerous hits, big feats, and of course that one-time brush with the anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The hit artiste began singing in 2014 when he reckoned his passion for entertainment, music to be precise. Naira Marley was beefed up by his close circle of friends to pursue that passion, which birthed his career in music. He released his first track Marry Juana assisted by Max Twigz in 2015, the same year he dropped the Debut EP Gotta Dance.

Other than being one of the originators of the popular Nigerian dance step, Zanku alongside Zlatan Ibile, the artist of the day has quite a number of achievements to his name. Having popular hits affiliated to his name like Am I A Yahoo Boy?, Soapy, Coming, Opotoyi, Koleyewon, First Time In America, PXTA, Vawulence, Chi Chi, Mafo and of course Issa Goal became the theme song for Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Produced by Vibez Ace, Girls Just Wanna Have Funds is not your regular Amapiano song. From when the beat drops, it is straight-up jiggy and up-tempo, having listeners plugged in from the first second. As is the spice of every true Amapiano track, there are heavy percussions that get more and more intense as it all builds up to the chorus.

The artiste in terms of lyricism uses a fine blend of Yoruba, Pidgin and English to express his thoughts. Girls Just Wanna Have Funds is literally about that, women wanting money or at least how much he presumes women love money. He also talks about money being a prerequisite in every romantic relationship.

It is evident in the lyrics…

Let’s stop talking about love

Girls just wanna have funds

Let’s stop talking about love

Girls just wanna have funds

Stop looking for the right one

You gon’ get yourself hurt

Girls just wanna have funds

I swear you will catch if you know how to dance

Woni ko e kotogbon, Bros obirin ma burugan

The video is also quite good. It does not depart from the hedonism theme that the song is all about. Indeed, the video can be said to have brought the song alive as it was heavy on all kinds of what some people consider fun with barely clad ladies as the highlight.

Naira Marley has certainly carved a niche for himself, staying true to what he stands for. Think rebellion, think standing up to “The Man”, think Naira Marley. He is the kind of musician who doesn’t shy away from controversy and as vulgar as some might think him to be, it is impossible to ignore the impression he has made on the Nigerian youth, reminiscent of the young Madonna and her culture altering engagements.

Girls Just Wanna Have Funds is that Naija Amapiano track you need to spice up your day. Give it a listen. You’re welcome!
