NCDMB opens 10th undergraduate essay competition on local manufacturing
Students invited to propose ideas that could strengthen local manufacturing and deepen Nigeria's local content drive.
As Nigeria intensifies efforts to build a stronger manufacturing base and reduce reliance on imports, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) is inviting young Nigerians to contribute ideas that could help shape that future.
The Board has announced the 10th edition of its National Undergraduate Essay Competition, with this year’s theme, “Promoting Manufacturing for Sustainable Local Content Development,” challenging students to explore how stronger local manufacturing can accelerate economic growth and expand opportunities within Nigeria’s energy sector.
Entries for the competition will open on August 15 and are open to 100- and 200-level students in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across the country.
Now in its 10th year, the annual competition has grown beyond an academic exercise into a platform for encouraging research, innovation and fresh thinking around some of Nigeria’s most important development priorities. Participants are encouraged to develop practical solutions that support industrialisation, strengthen local content and reduce dependence on imported goods and services.
According to a statement signed by the Managing Director and Project Consultant, Eyinimi Omorozi, the competition aims to sharpen students’ research skills while preparing them with the knowledge and competencies needed to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s energy industry.

Interested students will submit their essays through the competition portal, www.ncdmbessay.ng, once the application window opens.
Outstanding entries will be recognised at the award ceremony scheduled for October 22 at the NCDMB headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Over the last decade, the NCDMB National Undergraduate Essay Competition has become one of the Board’s flagship capacity development initiatives, encouraging young scholars to engage with national development issues while proposing innovative ideas that can strengthen local content, boost manufacturing and support Nigeria’s long-term economic resilience.
