Newspaper Editor/Writers at The New Daily Prime

Location: Lagos

Responsibilities:

  • Breaking News: Cover breaking news in a busy, 24-hour newsroom alongside other journalists.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with sources and editors to identify and deliver breaking news stories for the most-read English language news site.
  • Story Generation: Generate your own news stories and meet strong deadlines.
  • Content Verification: Gather and verify images, posts, videos, and other content from social media.
  • Digital Analytics: Understand and utilize digital analytics tools.
  • Problem Solving: Be a problem solver with the ability to deal with issues calmly and decisively.
  • Team Player: Work well with others, demonstrating strong teamwork skills.
  • Legal Knowledge: Have an understanding of the global and Nigeria Editors’ Code of Practice, media, and copyright law.

Profile of Candidate Required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Law, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in publishing, digital content creation, and social media.
  • Skills: Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt to different tones and styles.
  • Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Market Knowledge: Deep knowledge and experience in covering the telecoms and tech market.
  • Flexibility: Willingness and eligibility to travel abroad and work outside of regular hours when required.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Breaking News Response: Identify and swiftly respond to breaking news with strong, sustained reporting and writing that shows a commitment to fairness and accuracy.
  • Global Reporting: Report across a range of subjects in the United States, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with reporters and editors in London, our twin breaking-news hub in Seoul, and our headquarters in Washington, D.C., including data and visual journalists.
  • Legal Understanding: Understanding of the Editors’ Code of Practice, media, and copyright law.
