Responsibilities:
- Breaking News: Cover breaking news in a busy, 24-hour newsroom alongside other journalists.
- Collaboration: Work closely with sources and editors to identify and deliver breaking news stories for the most-read English language news site.
- Story Generation: Generate your own news stories and meet strong deadlines.
- Content Verification: Gather and verify images, posts, videos, and other content from social media.
- Digital Analytics: Understand and utilize digital analytics tools.
- Problem Solving: Be a problem solver with the ability to deal with issues calmly and decisively.
- Team Player: Work well with others, demonstrating strong teamwork skills.
- Legal Knowledge: Have an understanding of the global and Nigeria Editors’ Code of Practice, media, and copyright law.
Profile of Candidate Required:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Law, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience in publishing, digital content creation, and social media.
- Skills: Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt to different tones and styles.
- Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Market Knowledge: Deep knowledge and experience in covering the telecoms and tech market.
- Flexibility: Willingness and eligibility to travel abroad and work outside of regular hours when required.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Breaking News Response: Identify and swiftly respond to breaking news with strong, sustained reporting and writing that shows a commitment to fairness and accuracy.
- Global Reporting: Report across a range of subjects in the United States, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with reporters and editors in London, our twin breaking-news hub in Seoul, and our headquarters in Washington, D.C., including data and visual journalists.
- Legal Understanding: Understanding of the Editors’ Code of Practice, media, and copyright law.
