Nigerians plunged into darkness as national grid collapses again
Electricity supply from the national grid crashes to just 120 megawatts, leaving major cities like Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt in darkness.

Another day, another blackout. On Wednesday 10th September 2025, Nigerians were plunged into darkness yet again as the national grid went down, cutting supply to less than 200 megawatts for the entire country.
By 1:00 pm, the Nigerian System Operator’s portal showed the load profile had collapsed to just 120 megawatts, barely enough to power a small town, let alone a nation of over 200 million people.
From Lagos to Abuja, Port Harcourt to Kano and Enugu, homes and businesses reported sudden outages. Some areas were left without power for hours, adding yet another chapter to the country’s frustrating power crisis.
Abuja Electricity Distribution Company was the first to confirm the problem publicly, saying the loss of supply occurred at 11:23 am and was due to a system collapse on the national grid. The company assured customers that it was working with grid operators to restore power once stability was achieved.

So far, only Abuja DisCo has issued an official statement, while other distribution companies have kept quiet despite the widespread blackouts.
Another collapse, another apology, but little progress, leaving Nigerians to wonder how much longer the nation will stumble in the dark.
