Numbers show the Nigerian Army taking down terrorist targets in 5 data sets

A decade ago, much of the insecurity issues confronting Nigeria had been restricted to the northern part, but in recent times the violence, abductions and massacres have even spread to the south.

The warning to terrorists taking advantage of vulnerable remote villages and towns couldn’t have been sterner than the way the Defence Bi-weekly Operations Report of the Nigerian Army had put their casualty figures.

In a spate of two weeks, the army had achieved 266 surrenders by insurgents and their accomplices, but it also killed 59 terrorists. Gradually, the Nigerian Army is growing in capacity; it has been buoyed by recent acquisitions like 12 Tucano jets that have given the military an aerial edge over the enemies.

Up to five data sets captured in the operations report shared yesterday covered the arrests of those considered violent extremists, which amounts to 124 in number as well as 54 kidnap victims.

All supplies, such as wands of cash piling up to ₦324,200, the barrels of oil 4,289, that can either be refined or sold in addition to 3,053 ammunition, have been recorded by the army in their past raids. The timeline of the recovery covers Thursday, 25 January until 8 February.

It had to be an exceptional commitment by service officers, both men and women, that brings in the success recorded so far.

Army Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba made it a point to stress this while presenting the report at a briefing on Thursday. He hopes the general Nigerian populace to always be aware of the sacrifices being made for their cause and safety.

I urge all segments of society to take [the example of] our gallant troops [on] the frontlines fighting to achieve the goal of liquidating terrorists and insurgents across the country in order to restore peace and security.

These men and women are from all the nooks and crannies of our country and act shoulder to shoulder as a united force to achieve a common cause of destroying camps of violence in the country.

In efforts to ensure tranquility in Nigeria like in the days of old, soldiers have found themselves being deployed to different parts of Nigeria.

A decade ago, much of the insecurity issues confronting the country had been restricted to the northern part, but in recent times the violence, abductions and massacres have even spread to the south where the residents are living in disbelief over such a rapid degeneration into chaos.

They are wondering, how soon there will be a way out.
