Typically, Omah Lay exudes an intense seductive vibe in his Boy Alone, which has become a great hit. Since the track dropped, he has gained a lot more fans, especially as members of Gen Z are more sexually conscious and expressive.

His new album is a blend of various emotions. Besides seduction, he explores common human emotions such as sadness, depression, struggle, ambition, and lifestyle. Comments buzzing the social media since the release of his new album show that his music is not merely artistic content for enjoyment, as the fast-rising star constantly maintains, his songs are a vivid reflection of his real emotions and his truth as a person.

We can’t help but deeply resonate with the lyrics of his songs combining both Afrobeats and soul genres. His album comes off as all-encompassing of youthful living while beautifully revealing transcending emotions that the average person can relate to. Through the album, one can easily take a trip into the life of the artiste and connect with where he is currently (both mentally and generally); while getting a vivid picture of where he wants to be, all encapsulated in sweet rhythm and powerful lyrics.

With only two features on the album – Justin Bieber and Tay Iwar, the new album makes us celebrate creativity, especially in the crowded Nigerian music industry. The afrobeat singer, songwriter and record producer hit fame with his self-produced single, Bad Influence in 2020. He recently advanced in his career and the music industry following his remarkable collaboration with the global superstar Justin Bieber. This is evidence of his hard work and inevitable top game goals in music.

His song, Safe Haven shows him off as highly ambitious. This song, like others in the album, mirrors the life of a typical hustler. The solemn tone exudes empathy from listeners as it subtly re-echoes the plights of the average youth who is working against all odds to make ends meet. His tone is slightly different in I’m a Mess as the message is that of an internal struggle.

Many of us can relate to the struggle to be fulfilled and happy with everyday life. This is particularly so considering what we view success to be. However, the tone of finality is enthusiastic, perhaps he has transcended these depressive episodes and is remaining on the top of his game. The song Bend You reintroduces Omah Lay as the badass-sexual Port Harcourt boy. He doesn’t hesitate to remind us whenever he hits the stage!

However, the current controversy is comparing this project to Burna Boy’s Love, Damini. Naysayers are suggesting that it is strategic that Omah lay’s album is aired immediately after Burna’s. These are, unarguably, great talents and the thriving Nigerian music industry is what it is because every artiste annexes a space that the other cannot.

Despite exploring emotions peculiar to the average person, Omah Lay’s songs are deeply rooted in ‘Nigerianness’. As a Port Harcourt boy, he doesn’t hide his nativity as his lyrics are deeply laced with words from his mother tongue. He also vibes the everyday realities of youth in words typical to the Nigerian people – This is repping Afrobeat.

This album is undeniably superb so get your speakers’ volumes up and keep streaming.
