NLNG, NCDMB equipped graduates from the Train 7 Human Capital Development Programme with advanced skills in technical and managerial fields as Nigeria deepens local content in oil and gas

Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), in partnership with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), has closed out the Train 7 Human Capital Development (HCD) Advanced Training Programme, graduating 122 trainees at its Bonny Island plant complex.

The programme, which officially ends on September 30, 2025, marks a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s ongoing drive to strengthen Nigerian content in the oil and gas sector.

The HCD programme is part of the requirements of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act and was supervised by NCDMB. It builds on earlier basic HCD training sessions and equips both graduate and vocational trainees with advanced skills through three months of rigorous on-the-job training (OJT) within NLNG’s facilities.

According to NLNG, the training focused on technical expertise in plant and facility management as well as core competencies in instrumentation, electrical, mechanical, lifting and rigging, fabrication, preventive and corrective maintenance. The programme is designed to prepare participants to compete not only in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector but also globally.

Representing the NLNG Train 7 Project Director, Engr. Ali Uwais, the Project’s Corporate Liaison Manager Engr. Joshua Anemeje praised the resilience and discipline of the trainees.

“This programme is about building a new generation of Nigerian professionals who will shape the oil and gas sector for decades to come. Its successful completion with a zero-incident safety record reflects not only your dedication but also NLNG’s uncompromising culture of ‘Safety First and Always, ’” he said.

Anemeje also commended NCDMB as a strategic partner, as well as the programme’s training contractors, Candix Engineering Nigeria Limited, AOS Orwell, Arco Marine and Engineering Limited, Dover Engineering, and Amaiden Energy Nigeria Limited, for delivering a world-class training experience.

“Today is proof that strategic collaboration delivers impact. Through our collaboration with NCDMB and our training partners, we are shaping the future by investing in people, strengthening capacity, and laying the groundwork for sustainable national prosperity,” he added.

The NCDMB General Manager for Human Capital Development, Esueme Dan Kikile, Esq., also hailed the programme as a vital step in building a skilled Nigerian workforce.

“This training provided hands-on experience on a live LNG project that complemented your academic and theoretical knowledge. It further exposed trainees to specialised advanced technical disciplines, project management, health and safety, and emerging technologies critical to the future of the industry,” he said.

Kikile noted that the Train 7 Project, one of Africa’s largest gas infrastructure developments, has not only created jobs but also offered a platform to groom young Nigerians with both advanced technical and managerial competencies.

He revealed that 27 trainees received special recognition awards for outstanding performance during the programme, while six exceptional graduates secured automatic employment with AOS Orwell, one of the training partners.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of awards to deserving trainees in recognition of their achievements. Both NLNG and NCDMB urged the graduates to leverage their newly acquired skills to create value in Nigeria’s energy sector and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s economic growth.

For NLNG, the initiative reinforces its commitment to Nigerian content and its wider Train 7 expansion project, which is expected to increase LNG production capacity and provide a platform for more local content initiatives in the future.
