35 made-in-Nigeria new tech that may hit showrooms in 2025 will look like these

By 2025, showrooms will seek locals to come to get a feel of Nigeria’s can-do mentality and hopefully find a product they like.

Even though President Bola Tinubu’s subsidy-ending administration remains the hardest that the citizens of Africa’s most populous country have had to endure, the regime’s thirst for quick tweaks and a yearning to build locally have gathered attention. Hence, a list of 35 made-in-Nigeria products that will be hitting virtually every city once it is 2025.

Maybe the coming year will surely be better than the current one, but it remains to be seen. At the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure’s (NASENI) headquarters, the people there seem sure of a very positive outlook because then there will be room to export the new tech machines that Nigerian innovators have prepared for use.

In October 2024, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure offered a ₦70million grant to six female innovators to support their creativity.

By 2025, showrooms will seek locals to come to get a feel of Nigeria’s can-do mentality and hopefully find a product they like. This is the vision of Khalil Halilu, NASENI’s Chief Executive Officer appointed on 1 September 2023.

A year of this exec leading the agency has resuscitated theoretically-proven prototypes that had long been submitted by indigenous innovators which otherwise would have been on a forgotten shelf waiting for funding.

Since my appointment to spearhead Nigeria’s industrialisation reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, we have been on an accelerated path to drive the eight strategic pillars that anchor his vision for Nigeria.

Central to this effort is our accelerated technology transfer and adaptation strategy, an initiative to fast-track our technological advancement.

The CEO Halilu, aged 35, was speaking to reporters at a presser held in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (F.C.T) on Wednesday, 13 November 2024. Under his push, some products customers can expect to see will be laptops, electric vehicles, android tablets, CCTV, and solar lights.

Earlier in the month via his X profile KSHalilu, there was a carousel of pictures displaying the bearded administrator as he tried out an e-tricycle for example. This is one of the creations produced locally that would likely be exported the way the advanced nations of the world have been seen to do.

At the press conference, the chief executive mentioned that we have rolled out 35 commercially viable products. Each of these products, he adds is a technological advancement and a testament to our commitment to sustainable industrial practice and reducing our dependence on imports.

This, in turn, fuels economic growth. We are no longer going to sit back doing endless research, prototypes and keeping them on the shelves.

We will take them to the market so that Nigerians can consume them and also for export.

Six months into his role in March, Mr Halilu was already looking at how to drive his country’s exportation capacity to ₦53.6 trillion by 2030, and that will be huge. The value chain that will be derived from reaching such a milestone is anticipated to pull up to two and a half million Nigerians out of poverty with this timeline.

As November progressed, NASENI’s Chief Executive Officer, Khalil Halilu here is seen visualising a taxation system that works alongside the Federal Inland Revenue Service's Executive Chairman, Zacc Adedeji.

The journey to this future milestone starts in the present. As from next year, we will get distributors and bulk buyers for products. When we launch the showroom, Nigerians will also be able to interact with these distributors.

In fact, one of our plans for next year is to have NASENI showrooms in key cities so that they are not just things you see on TV but you can go and walk in by yourself and experience the products that we have been talking about.

By focusing on innovation and homegrown solutions, these products contribute to our job creation drive and the growth of Nigeria’s economy.
