The ₦100 million distraction!

Who won’t be distracted by the motley crowd paying ₦100 million, yes, you read that right, ONE HUNDRED MILLION NAIRA to purchase a form to show face in the presidential primary of the governing party?
Show face is what it is. Most of the form purchasers know, and they know that Nigerians know they stand no chance at all of winning the APC Presidential primaries. So, what’s the strategic intent of purchasing the form? It’s a question animating Nigerians currently, but the politicians paying most likely know what’s in it for them.
This animation is especially virulent on social media where friends are resorting to abuse to drum up support for politicians who are in the main, friends! Even when electioneering is at a fever pitch, politicians’ friendship does not diminish. At the lowest point of their friendship, they remain frenemies and easily become tight buddies when their interests coalesce.
If Nigerians at each other’s throat on behalf of politicians need any evidence of the above assertion, they need not look beyond former President Goodluck Jonathan, who was so vilified that he had to scurry from Aso Rock in 2015, as the APC powerbrokers’ likeliest choice to succeed the current president!
We should behave like Nigerian politicians, you know. Know your interest and gravitate to where it’s best served. And no interest can be greater than taking care of yourself, both mind and body. This election season has the potential to stress us all out. Beyond objectively reviewing the contestants and what they have to offer, and then looking forward to voting in the general elections, politicians should just be allowed to do their thing.
The rest of us should continue to find ways to catch our breath from the relentless stream of news from across the country. Find ways to connect to nature. Go somewhere far from the maddening crowd.
One of such destinations is the Sumu Wildlife Park in Bauchi State, where you’d get to enjoy a safari. Lots of places like Sumu Park are in the country. If you are finding it difficult to make up your mind where to go, scan the content on meiza.ng. You’d be spoilt for choice.
And, if you think there are better places than the resorts and other destinations we’ve published in our Places segment, buzz us at info@meiza.ng and we’d check it out.
Happy reading.
