Rema’s next big step is the Best Afrobeats act at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards. See others who also won
The Best Afrobeats award was making a debut this year and it seems that Rema and his 'Calm Down' Selena Gomez feature saw it coming.

It is this year that marks the first time that the MTV Europe Music Awards has been cancelled since it took form in 1994. Nonetheless, it has brought on an exceptional Rema win in the Best Afrobeats category that involved a tussle with Nigerian counterparts, Arya Starr, Burna Boy and Davido. Planners initially set Sunday 5 November at the Paris Nord Villepinte in Paris as the date and venue for the 2023 MTV EMAs. Still, it had to be axed because of concerns about the well-being of participants who would be travelling down from active conflict zones like the way we see it happening in the Gaza Strip and Israel.
Earlier on 19 October, MTV poured out a statement citing this example as the motivation for cancelling and how it was looking forward to hosting next year’s edition. Hopefully, the next 300 days will be tranquil enough to know that the mood is right to gather people.
