Nigerian diva and Queen of Afrobeats, Tiwatope Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage is set to take the stage on the 7th of May at the Windsor Castle Grounds for the anticipated King Charles III coronation concert.

On May 1st, 2023, she posted the caption “See you at Windsor” on her Instagram page to share her accomplishment. The enthusiasm and buzz surrounding this have been enormous, especially among fans and music enthusiasts. As the first royal coronation in 70 years, her performance will go down in African history.

The coronation which would be held at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, the 6th of May, 2023 would be followed by the coronation concert the next day. The addition of Tiwa Savage to the lineup of performers for the historic day is one that would go down in Afrobeat history.

She won’t, however, be the sole performer at the ceremony. Along with Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Andrea Bocelli, Sir Bryn Terfel, Freya Ridings, Alexis French, Olly Murs, Steve Winwood, Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor, pianist Lang Lang, DJ Pete Tong, singer Vula, and up-and-coming Nottingham artist JERUB, the lineup also features Paloma Faith, Nicole Scherzinger, Olly Murs, and Steve Winwood.

Among her other accomplishments, she is the first female African musician to win the Best African Act Award at the MTV Europe Music Awards, the first female musician to have a Pepsi endorsement, and the recipient of an honorary degree from the University of Kent at a graduation ceremony held in Canterbury Cathedral. It goes without saying that she has taken deliberate steps to advance her career.

The Queen of Afrobeats, while speaking to the BBC, expressed her gratitude for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

She said: “It’s truly an honour to represent Africa and the Commonwealth at such a historic event. I look forward to joining the celebrations and bringing Afrobeats to Windsor Castle for the first time.”

Also, BBC announced that Tom Cruise, Dame Joan Collins and Disney’s Winnie the Pooh would feature in the concert. Famous movie stars like Tom Jones, Bear Grylls and Oti Mabuse are among the stars appearing in a series of pre-recorded sketches and segments revealing little-known facts about the king. The event, which would be transmitted live, would be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, including BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds.
