Lagos Blue Line to Run Every 10 Minutes

For thousands of Lagos commuters, Monday, August 11, 2025, will mark the start of a smoother, faster journey. The Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line is slashing its Marina–Mile 2 travel time to just 10 minutes, which is a significant drop from the current 18 minutes.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) says this is thanks to a new train schedule that will see departures every 10 minutes. That means an impressive 44% time saving for passengers, and a much more relaxed ride through the city.
With the upgrade, weekday and Saturday trips will jump from 72 to 90, while Sunday services will remain at 22. According to LAMATA Managing Director, Abimbola Akinajo, this leap in efficiency is made possible by new rolling stock purchased by the Lagos State Government with support from the Federal Government.
“We are excited to facilitate the increase in the number of trips,” Akinajo said, reaffirming the agency’s vision for “a world-class, sustainable transport system that satisfies stakeholders and drives the growth of Lagos.”

This small spurt that you are witnessing is more of a preview of coming attractions. Life will be even easier once the entire Blue Line is completed and stretches all the way to Okokomaiko, which is expected in the last quarter of 2026. The second phase of passenger operations is expected to begin in Q1 of 2027.
Since its inauguration on September 4, 2023, the Blue Line has already pulled in over five million passengers, and this just demonstrates how useful it can be to a city that never sleeps. Faster trains and additional journeys mean that your commute might begin to seem slightly less grind-like.
