Background
‘Jolie’, the hit track by Khaid has been making rounds on the internet, especially among TikTokers. The single, which was released early January, has been among the top 20 hit songs in Nigeria since it hit the airwave and social media.
Sulaimon Shekoni Solomon, popularly known by his stage name, Khaid, is an up-and-coming artiste who came into limelight in 2022, after signing a record deal with Sydney Talker’s Neville Records. The Lagos State-born musician was discovered through his viral freestyle on Instagram. Since then, he has been on the rise. Notably, he was named Apple Music’s Up Next Artiste for Nigeria on the 22nd of June, 2022.
He is also known for the popular track, Carry Me Go ft Boy Spyce and his other singles, which include, SKI, With You and Amala.
About ‘Jolie’
The track, Jolie, can be likened to a serenade that lifts the spirits of one’s lover under a cool night sky. Khaid talks about his undying love for a lady called Jolie and how he won’t give up on winning her heart. It goes further to talk about her constant refusal because she is spoken for, but according to him, he won’t stop wooing her, and even fighting any other suitor that comes close to her. The track was the tune of the Valentine’s season, and is still very popular.

The concept of using high school love to portray the message of the song was very creative. It communicated how strong the artiste’s feelings were by using the concept of young love. The market and prom scene were also amazing additions to the video. The music video was directed by Sydney Talker, the CEO of Neville records. The camera angles and lighting were very strategic and it blended harmoniously with the colours used in the video. It made the video very pleasing to the eye. Kudos to the creative team for a job well done.
Opinion
Although relatively new to the industry, Khaid has been able to make a name for himself in the entertainment industry. His consistency and determination have brought him this far and we can’t wait to see what else he has in store for us.
