What could happen to the penis whose owner takes sex drugs way too frequently?

In 2024, Meiza Nigeria scoured through the ancient city of Ibadan in Oyo State and found the widespread use of aphrodisiacs in almost every corner including bus parks hosting both intracity and intercity travels, as well as communal settings.

Mostly, the way experts see things, young men are the main demography making casualties out of themselves over a longing they have about being extraordinarily energetic and beating other records set by their counterparts when lasting a great deal longer during sex is the topic. It is for this reason that health guidance is urging them to stop so as not to break a penis – what is otherwise known as penile fracture.

In the past four years, I have treated more cases of fractured penises than I did in the previous 30 years combined, says a Consultant Urologist, Dr Gabriel Ogah. The expert was speaking to PUNCH Healthwise when he made the point, marking a drastic shift in the male orientation over sex.

Nowadays, he sees a new generation of men being overly bent on applying sexual performance drugs like Tramadol just to be able to peak beyond what is expected. The inspiration for this is peer pressure and the consequences of using pornography as the bar to measure just how good they can be when pleasing a woman.

All these actions are not advised according to Dr Ogah as they are unrealistic endeavours. When the penis lies in a prolonged state of erection and experiences a blow trauma as a result of being overused, it can lead to the organ being damaged.

Injury to the penis due to excessive use of aphrodisiacs may cause bleeding, bruising, trouble urinating, and severe pain. To overcome these challenges, immediate medical attention is necessary to prevent complications and most cases often require expensive surgery.

According to the urologist, penile fractures occur when an erection becomes overly rigid and the penis is subjected to physical trauma or stress.

In cases where men take excessive doses of sex-enhancing drugs, the prolonged, unnaturally sustained erections can cause the penis to become as stiff as a ‘cassava stick’, making it prone to breaking under even minimal pressure.

Seeking a doctor before use

Instances of young men making use of Viagra without a doctor’s recommendation have become quite a rampant trend that comes with great risks.

Many men want to be able to perform like porn stars, but this is not realistic says Dr Emmanuel Eze another consultant PUNCH Healthwise interacted with to drive home the point.

Sex, according to this particular expert goes beyond the idea of duration-measured performance; it’s about intimacy, connection, and pleasure.

What he thinks is needed for maximum productivity during lovemaking is a healthy diet, regular exercise, and good sleep habits. All these are the main essentials of good sexual relations.

Is it possible, just possible, that women have a higher sex drive than men?

The retailers of a variety of locally-brewed sex enhancers, mostly women, gain an even share of customers since their products serve the interest of two genders trying to increase their longevity in bed either for social relevance and being able to brag or for the sheer purpose of protecting a relationship.

But at this time, it is for the safekeeping of the menfolk that the present alarm bells are ringing. Health experts making the case for withdrawal from sex enhancers hope that they listen before more harm is done.
