The passing of Afrobeats singer, Mohbad has only been a week long, yet the event remains fresh in the minds of the public like it happened five minutes ago. He was hastily buried a day after his death on the 12th of September at the only land he was known to have owned.
According to his father, Joseph Aloba, speaking via a viral Instagram video, the late singer’s burial in the Ikorodu district of Lagos State witnessed such speed due to the early timing at the tender age of 27, and the fact that both his parents are still alive.
However, there are concerns among fans who thought Mohbad’s celebrity status deserved a better funeral than what he got.
“In Yoruba land, his corpse is not the kind to be kept when both of his parents are still alive,” says the senior Aloba.
He adds that “assuming he died at an older age, we might have considered storing his body in the mortuary and retrieving it later on”.
What the police are saying
Mohbad was a prominent Nigerian singer who was formerly signed to Marlians Records World which is owned by Naira Marley. Since his demise last Tuesday, the police have been making statements regarding imminent plans to unravel the cause due to public interest in the matter.

Yesterday, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa, the Lagos State Police Commissioner unveiled a 13-person Special Investigation Team headed by his deputy Saheed Kassim.
The team is expected to exhume Mohbad’s corpse, organise an autopsy, and subject it to both toxicological and histological tests.
Speaking at a press briefing, the commissioner said: “The team will engage in the exhumation, autopsy, visit to the crime scenes, hospitals and past records that might be vital towards establishing the facts in relation to the case on that investigation.”
During the press briefing which witnessed the presence of Mohbad’s father, Commissioner Owohunwa revealed that all information, including videos, will be used in the probe and that the focus will not be on anyone in particular.
He revealed that the target of the command is anybody the investigation deems fit. Additionally, he confirmed that anyone in the world can be picked up for interrogation. “Wherever you are in this world, do not forget that we have access to Interpol,” he said.
The investigation panel is expected to give their report within two weeks.
