Call Me every day is co-produced by Nigerians DJ Tunez and BlaiseBeatz with Leon Youngblood to gift us a nice mesh of smooth Afro-jazz and Chris Brown’s staple slow and sexy RnB sound. You know afrobeats is slowly taking over as an easily identifiable global music genre when even the folks in Hollywood are getting in on it.

Wizkid (Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun) is no stranger to the global stage with an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Global Act, a BET Award, a Grammy Nomination, iHeartRadio Music Award, Billboard Music Award, and so many other awards, making him the most awarded singer in Afrobeat history. His impressive discography includes One dance with Drake, Brown skin girl with the one and only Beyoncé, and the chart-topping Essence, among many others, which puts Wizkid as one of the most respected Afrobeat musicians.

So, it comes as no surprise that he held his own with Grammy Award-winning artist Chris Brown, who has also had an exceptional career with 410 nominations and 124 wins. Call Me Everyday is smooth in its delivery, backed by satiny beats with each artiste delivering his line with a deliberate sexiness that oozes beyond the beats. With lyrics like:

Come rewind o

Girl I get the money wey fit make you mine o

Give you loving every night fit make you mad o

Na only you give me love

Wey make me nice o nice o nice o

Affi make you mine o

It is still familiar territory for acid Wizkid fans but also proves that you really don’t have to be from the continent to master Afrobeats. In the song, Wizkid and Brown sing about their love for women they want to be faithful to. They are dedicated to giving their time, love, care, and attention to her every day, whenever and wherever she demands it. They focus on the power the women they love have over them, the power to drive them crazy. She is their ideal woman, who satisfies their every need.

The lyrics aren’t as raunchy as some of Chris Brown’s or Wizkid’s other songs, which might make the song seem like it is less passionate but the devil is in the details. The softness of the delivery of the lyrics was almost drawn out over the slowish tempo beat.

If you have ever been in love, this song is easily relatable. It is exactly the sort of song that suits the cool, rainy weather in the last two weeks. It makes the listener wants to dance with their lovers. While Brown and Wizkid will not be held responsible for the results of such endeavours, one can’t help but feel in entirety that it is a conscious choice to release this song just as we enter the Wet Season fully.
