Wrap up chilly January with doses of suspense and drama happening on Netflix

An audience can binge on "Adire" which talks about a sex worker who has given up her wayward ways and is seeking a fresh start in a new town where she is not totally welcome.

This January, Netflix is set to entertain streamers visiting its platform with three titles that are worthy of the anticipation they have been getting.

Although not all the titles are newly released, it is the amazing storytelling they embody that brought them to our attention. So, first, we start with the oldest on the list which is “Dinner, a Jay Franklyn Jituboh film that came out in 2016.

Dinner, starring Deyemi Okanlawon as Richard ‘Richie’ Boyo, depicts the coming together of two marriage-bound couples and the mess they generated when their secrets began to get exposed.

Other cast in the movie include Enyinna Nwigwe, Keira Hewatch, Kehinde Bankole and Richard Mofe-Damijo. A reminder of how events unfolded will be achieved come 30 January when the audience gets to see things develop from a fresh perspective.

Then comes “Adire”. Unlike the previous title, Dinner, the actress Kehinde Bankole is the main focus here considering that the movie is named after her character.

Adire is a sex worker who has given up her wayward ways and is seeking a fresh start in a new town where she is not totally welcome. What is getting in the way of her lingerie business and who is going to provide her with relief?

These are the questions awaiting answers in the Adeoluwa Owu film that also features the actresses, Funlola Aofiyebi as Folashade and Yvonne Jegede who plays Adire’s hospitable friend, Shalewa.

Adire, which saw its box office release on 3 November 2023 has grossed over ₦31million and it is currently number one among the top 10 movies streamed by Nigerian audiences since it dropped on Netflix a week ago.

It has been nine weeks since “Merry Men 3: Nemesis saw its box office release, which has spread to up to 61 cinemas around Nigeria. On Thursday, 18 January, the trilogy is expected to start a new journey on Netflix where anticipation has also been building.

Audiences who followed the past sequels already have a picture of an Abuja clique of bachelors doing lavish things with their wealth. But they do not always have the Midas touch, these philanderers, therefore, leaving them with problems to solve.

This latest Merry Men effort features a recurring cast involving Ramsey Noah, Ayo Makun and Iretiola Doyle. It had been four years since the last production, so streamers will imagine that they are up for a treat.
