A quack nurse, fistfight with a childhood friend – all that led to Mohbad’s death on concert night

Among five suspects identified, interrogated and later detained in relation to the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, one stands out in terms of culpability. That is the quack auxiliary nurse who administered a combination of intravenous injections to the deceased following an injury he sustained during a post-concert brawl.

This was the new evidence that was revealed on Friday, 6 October, at a press briefing that was anchored by Lagos State Police Commissioner, Idowu Owohunwa. Although there are five main suspects, the nurse Miss Feyisayo Ogedengbe took actions that are directly linked to a deterioration of health and the subsequent passing of the late singer.

It would seem that the identification of the suspects was the main highlight of the briefing since the objective of the police from the get-go was to figure out any known culprit. Besides the quack are also others including Mohbad’s friend Ayobami Sadiq who invited the freelance nurse.

There is also Primeboy, a childhood buddy of Mohbad who was earlier declared wanted by the police. It was with Primeboy that intoxicated Mohbad while leaving the concert got into a violent fight that brought on severe injuries which needed to be treated. Then Sam Larry and Naira Marley ended the list because of cyberbullying. These five are the main acts according to a police investigation that started shortly after the musician died on 12 September.

“Miss Feyisayo Ogedengbe is the auxiliary nurse who was contacted and invited by Ayobami Sadiq, aka Spending, a friend of Mohbad, on September 11, 2023, to treat the singer at the deceased’s residence at Lekki-Lagos,” reads a comment from Commissioner Owohunwa addressing the public.

“She eventually came on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, and administered three different injections, which are believed to have occasioned the chain of reactions that directly resulted in the death of the singer.

“She is the principal suspect in the death of Mohbad.

“She acknowledged that it was the injections she administered on the deceased that triggered the reactions, which eventually led to Mohbad’s death. Other expert opinions and witness statements corroborated her admittance.

“Her actions of administering doses of Tetanus Toxoid, Paracetamol (IV) and Ceftriaxone injection (IV) on Mohbad at his residence on September 12, 2023, immediately and directly triggered the reactions (including vomiting, goose bumps, convulsion) that eventually resulted in the singer’s death.”

A police submission concerning the nurse’s involvement characterised her as absolutely unqualified to discharge the duties of a health professional, a fact which made her uniquely culpable in the death. Mohbad’s upscale Lekki residence where she provided the treatment was determined as “a non-clinical environment” by the police commissioner.

Now, away from the childhood relationships of the deceased, there are Sam Larry and Naira Marley. Together they struck musical partnerships with Mohbad both in record management and performances. This pair are rumoured to have hurt the singer in the past, with “ample electronic and credible witness pieces of evidence linking them to cyberbullying, a threat to life, assault occasioning harm, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace against the deceased in his lifetime.”

These are the high stakes facing Naira Marley in particular who has been made a public enemy based on these accusations although he denies them. He released a statement a fortnight ago that positioned his current trials as a momentary blip. As investigations continue, more facts will be unfolded.

What is certain now while Naira Marley remains detained is that there has been clarity in a topic that looked remarkably murky not too long ago.
