Ruger’s Girlfriend, though risqué, is a banger

Ruger’s Girlfriend is finally revealed. Mavin/Jonzing World Records signee, Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known by his stage name Ruger is back with another hit song, Girlfriend, an up-tempo afro dance hall track that has proven to be quite the club-shaker.
Girlfriend has become the star track of the hit album The Second Wave Deluxe, which appears to be Ruger’s biggest album so far. It features several hit songs, the likes of Snapchat, Champion, Useless, Dior, WeWe, and Warning.
Ruger made his debut on the 20th of January, 2021, on Mavin’s hit single One Shirt, featuring D’Prince and Rema. Ruger went on to release his first solo project Pandemic, a six-track EP, and the track Bounce off the EP was a hit song that stayed at the top of various Nigerian music charts at the time of its release and was among the Top 100 songs in Apple Music Nigeria for weeks on end. This series of events marked Ruger’s rise to stardom.
Hit-Track Girlfriend was produced by Kukbeat. It has all the right kinds of catchy upbeat afro-vibes to light up a playlist. Although the lyrics may seem a bit offensive to women, it is really “all cruise and vibes” as most would say and it is meant to be taken lightly.

The hook and chorus of this song are arguably the catchiest part of it; it is sure to have you put in the legwork at this point. It goes thus…
Listen to me quick
So, mi girlfriend said she wants me back home by two
What will I do?
So, mi tell her say my car broke down at Mile 2
Girl, I won’t be home so soon
Oh Lord, me want all the girls in the whole world (me want all the girls in the whole world)
I know what I’m doin’ is so wrong (I know what I’m doin’ is)
But, since no man can focus
We definitely don’t give a fuck
She said she know me get a girlfriend
And so what?
What if I, what if I, what if I (what if I)
The tempo builds up to this point in the chorus where it has an upbeat afro-fusion that resonates just right. This would explain why since its release, this song has received massive air play. Its bouncy reggae beats are smoothly reminiscent of a beach bonfire hangout.
From Bounce to Snapchat, Ruger has managed to keep playlists popping while maintaining his sound. Girlfriend is no exception.
Girlfriend is here to stay and will likely be one of the biggest songs this season, with its easy beats and simple lyrics. Best to listen on those lazy days.
