Burna Boy, Famous Pluto, Modola shine as Boomplay unveils top 10 albums list

From global icons to rising voices, Boomplay’s latest rankings reveal how Afrobeats continues to stretch its sound and its stars across Africa and beyond.

Afrobeats is not slowing down, it is evolving, expanding, and finding new champions. This was evident as Boomplay, Africa’s largest music streaming platform, released its Top 10 Albums list for August and September 2025. The rankings, based on streams between January and September, spotlight both household names and breakout stars who defined the sound of the year so far.

At the top of the conversation is Burna Boy, whose No Sign for Weakness reaffirmed why he remains a global force. The project blends Afro-fusion rhythms with sharp, socially conscious themes, continuing his dominance on the international stage.

But Burna is not alone. Osahon Grandeur Uzama, better known as Famous Pluto, took second place with Uzama The 3rd. Once seen as a promising newcomer, Pluto is now living up to the hype, and his charting success signals that a fresh generation of Afrobeats storytellers is stepping into the spotlight.

Black Sherif, Ghana’s genre-bending hitmaker, followed closely with Iron Boy, his sophomore effort that bridges raw street narratives with experimental soundscapes. And then there is Modola, whose debut project, New Light, earned her a place at number 9. The singer’s viral hit Talk earlier this year turned social media buzz into a streaming breakthrough, and Boomplay credits her “musical maturity and passion” as reasons for her fast rise.

For industry watchers, the bigger story is what the list represents. The presence of both Afrobeats giants and first-timers reflects how audiences are broadening their tastes and embracing a wider pool of talent. It also underscores Boomplay’s role as not just a streaming service but a cultural barometer of Africa’s soundscape.

With a full Top 100 Albums ranking that cuts across artists from Nigeria, Ghana, and the diaspora, Boomplay’s 2025 charts show that African music is not just competing globally, it is reshaping what global music looks and sounds like.
