Brotherhood leads the pack in the AMVCAs 2023 Nominations

The AMVCAs 2023 has set the stage for a keen contest in this year’s awards as ‘Brotherhood’ and ‘Anikulapo' movies show terrific appearances.

The thrilling blockbuster movie, Brotherhood is a masterpiece that has continued to wow the viewers. Themed around two brothers who fell on opposite sides of the law in a bid to to survive on the streets of Lagos, the intriguing Nollywood thriller is definitely beyond magnificent as the bonds of brotherhood are put to the ultimate test.

It was a sunny day for Brotherhood movie crew as the engaging and highly entertaining movie re-echoed itself in the recently announced 9th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) nominations on Sunday, April 16, 2023. The organisers of the prestigious award, MultiChoice released the list of nominees for the 2023 AMVCAs, and the awards date was set for May 18-20, and will be hosted by Bisola Aiyeola and Ghanaian actor, Adjetey Anang.

Jade Osiberu leads crew to preliminary victory

Jade Osiberu, the director of the movie led her crew to public reckoning in what seems to be a preliminary victory as the movie won the hearts of movie pundits, to become the most nominated movie. This attests to its acceptance by viewers and movie pundits. She  leads the pack in the nominations for the Best Movie (West Africa) category. Others are: Chris Odeh (Choke), Kayode Kasum (Obara’ M), Kunle Afolayan (Anikulapo), Rent-A-Studio & Native Media TV (Kanaani), Samira Yakubu (Red Carpet), and Winifred Mena Ajakpoviv (Four Four Forty Four). The movie was also nominated  in the Best Overall Movie, and was nominated alongside some power-packed movies like Anikulapo by Kunle Afolayan, King of Thieves by Femi Adebayo, Battle of Buka Street by Funke Akindele, Ile Owo by Kayode Kasum, Tembele by Mugisha Herbert Morris, and Four Four Forty Four by Winifred Mena-Ajakpovi.

Best Director 

Loukman Ali, the director of Brotherhood movie, leads the squad to make the nomination list in the Best Director category of the AMVCAs. He will be locking horns with other topnotch movie directors like the duo of Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo who co-directed (King of Thieves – Agesinkole), Babatunde Apalowo who directed All The Colours of the World are between Black and White; Bolanle Austen-Peters who directed Man of God; Dimeji Ajibola, the director of Shanty Town; Jade Osiberu who directed The Trade; Kunle Afolayan who directed Anikulapo; Mugisha Herbert Morris who directed Tembele; Obi Emelonye who directed Black Mail; Tolu Ajayi, Fiyin Gambo, Ifeoma Chukwuogo, & James Omokwe who all jointly directed Diiche.

Best Soundtrack in a (Movie or TV Series)

Fate seems to be on the side of the Brotherhood movie team as the movie, again, rears its head in the Best Soundtrack in a (Movie or TV) Series category. This is definitely a tough challenge as the contenders will all slug it out. The hopefuls are: Abiola Olayinka, Habeeb Adebayo (L.I.F.E.); Adam Songbird and Tolu Obanro (King of Thieves – Agesinkole); Gbas Gbos by Tolu Obanro and Adam Songbird (Battle on Buka Street); Jaysynths and Hotkid (Shanty Town); Joel Christian Goffin (Black Mail); Kent Edunjobi (Anikulapo); and Q Rodney Abia, Angelo Anosike, Kayode Kasum (Obara’ M).

Best Picture Editor

It was a beautiful night with the full moon shining brightly on the Brotherhood movie team as they had yet another great appearance in the Best Picture Editor (Movie or TV Series) category. Martini Akande will be representing the team in the battlefield for supremacy. The other contenders are: Adio Solanke (Ile Owo), Banjo Onyekachi, Winston Aig-Ohioma, Oluwaseun Adeosun (Diiche), Holmes Awa & Daniel Tom (Crime & Justice), Kimera Paul (Tembele), Sanjo Adegoke (King of Thieves – Agesinkole), Steve Sodiya (Ijakumo the Born Again Stripper), Temitope Folarin (Anikulapo), and Valentine Chukwuma (Battle on Buka Street)

Best Art Director

The movie also made a fantastic appearance as the duo of Olugbenga Ogunshina and Joy Kadiri will be toughing it out with their counterparts in Best Art Director (Movies or TV Series) category. Other contenders include: Olalekan Isiaka (Shanty Town), Olatunji Afolayan (Battle On Buka Street), Pat Nebo & Temple Chima Adighije (Crime & Justice), Toka Mcbaror (Almajiri), Uche Nwaohiri & Tunde Lawal –(Diiche), Wale Adeleke (King Of Thieves – Agesinkole).

Best Actor in a (Drama, Movie or TV Series)

Nigeria’s Tobi Bakre rocks well for the Brotherhood in the Best Actor in a (Drama, Movie or TV Series). It will be no holds barred for the prolific actor who will be battling it out with veteran actors like Blossom Chukwujekwu (The Trade), Chidi Mokeme (Shanty Town),Chimezie Imo (Choke), Daniel Etim-Effiong (Kofa), Femi Adebayo (King of Thieves-Agesinkole), NKakalukanyi Patriq (Tembele), O.C. Ukeje (Black Mail), Richard Mofe Damijo (Four Four Forty Four), and Tope Tedela (All The Colours Of The World Are Between Black and White).

Best Supporting Actor 

OC Ukeje will be the lead counsel for the Brotherhood team in the Best Supporting Actor category. Other contenders include: Abdisattar Ahmed (Gacal), Bucci Franklin (The Razz Guy), James Webbo (County 49), Jeffroberts Walusimbi (Bedroom Chains), Taiwo Hassan (Anikulapo), and Yinka Quadri (Anikulapo).

Best Costume Designer (Movie/TV Series)

In the Best Costume Designer (Movie/TV Series) category, Ezugworie Franca will be manning the goal post for the Brotherhood team. To win this match, she needs to oust other contenders such as Adeola Art-Alade (The Real Housewives of Lagos Reunion Episode), Bolanle Austen-Peters, Clement Effanga, and Juliana Dede (Man of God), Bunmi Fashina, Tiannah Empire & Secrets of April (Shanty Town), Kingsley Okoye Rex (Nnewi The Land of Gold), Millicent Jack (Four Four Forty Four), and Toyin Ogundeji (Anikulapo).

Best Lighting Designer

Mathew Yusuf will be lighting things up for the Brotherhood squad as he gallantly walks into the stage to sustain the winning tempo for his team. His contenders are: Francis Wanyahdeh (Crime & Justice), Francis Wanyahdeh & Ebuka Enejere (Diiche), Godwin Lawal (Tarella), Ismail Adewunmi (Ile Owo), Lanre Omofaiye (Anikulapo), Muri Salami (Four Four Forty Four), Renaldo Van Den Berg, Emmanuel Patrick, & David Otuokere (Real Housewives of Lagos), Segun Adeleke (Flawsome), and Walter Odhiambo (Shanty). Town.

Best Supporting Actress (Drama/TV Series)

To support her team by taking them to the place of greatness, media personality and actress Toni Tones will steer the Brotherhood team to victory in the Best Supporting Actress (Drama/TV Series). She will wrestle will other seasoned actresses like Dorcas Shola Fapson (Man of God), Efe Irele (Four Four Forty Four), Gina Castel (Kofa), Ivie Okujaye (On Your Own), Sola Sobowale (Anikulapo), and Teniola Aladese ( Love in a Pandemic).

This year’s AMVCAs is keenly contested as virtually all the nominees are worth their salt. Congratulations to all the nominees.
