Expert Listing is on a mission to transform how real estate is discovered, verified, and transacted across Nigeria and Africa. Our platform connects property seekers directly with landlords, Airbnb hosts, and developers removing layers of middlemen and mistrust. We’re building a smarter, transparent, and scalable proptech ecosystem for the next generation of property investors, tenants, and owners.

Role Overview

As CTO, you will shape and execute Expert Listing’s entire tech strategy from platform architecture to scaling the engineering team. You’ll build our MVP into a robust, user-friendly, data-driven marketplace that can scale city by city, while leading a distributed team of developers and product managers.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and own the technical roadmap, aligning it with business goals and user needs.
• Architect and oversee development of our full-stack platform (MERN stack preferred) for web and mobile.
• Build and mentor a high-performing engineering team: hire, train, and lead devs, designers, and DevOps.
• Ensure platform security, scalability, and reliability as we grow.
• Implement best practices in agile development, code quality, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure.
• Collaborate with product, operations, and growth teams to translate ideas into tested features.
• Evaluate and integrate relevant AI tools for listing verification, user recommendations, and fraud prevention.
• Represent Expert Listing’s tech vision to investors, partners, and stakeholders.

Ideal Skills & Experience

• 5+ years in software development, with at least 2+ years in a senior leadership or CTO role at a startup or growth-stage company.
• Strong experience with MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js) or similar.
• Proven record of building and scaling platforms, preferably marketplaces, SaaS, or proptech.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and DevOps best practices.
• Experience integrating map APIs, payment gateways, and real-time chat.
• Solid grasp of data privacy, cybersecurity, and compliance standards.
• Hands-on approach to leading remote or hybrid engineering teams.
• Bonus: background in Nigerian or African tech ecosystems.
