What career does singer Davido think he would rather pursue instead of music?

Making sales pitches is part of the life of a marketer, and if Davido had to do that professionally, he thinks it would have been second nature because he loves to engage.

If it wasn’t the music business, what career would the Nigerian pop star David [Davido] Adeleke have found himself pursuing? The Afrobeats singer is currently promoting his new project, “5ive”, which he discussed in an interview with a United States-based radio programme with the hosts Ferrari Simmons and You Know BT from Beat 96.1 FM.

The project, which features collaborations with American singers Victoria Monét and Chris Brown, explores themes of healing, family, and personal growth.

Beyond music, Davido has expressed interest in podcasting, particularly through his appearance, speaking with the hosts. He revealed that his first dream was to be a record producer and engineer, emphasising that he has always been fascinated by the technical and business aspects of the music industry.

Davido’s interest in podcasting stems from his desire to share insights on entrepreneurship, music, and personal development. He enjoys deep conversations, and podcasting allows him to engage with audiences in a way that music alone cannot. Despite his success as a musician, he sees value in storytelling and mentorship, making podcasting an appealing avenue for him.

On 12 May 2025, Davido, while in Atlanta, United States of America, sat down with podcast hosts Ferrari Simmons and You Know BT to discuss other flair beyond music and promoting the new “5ive” album.

In a recent interview with the Atlanta-based radio station, the With You singer revealed that he has been rigorously promoting his latest album, even though he didn’t need to do that.

I’ve been doing crazy promo for my album – not easy. I don’t have to do promo but I like it, I like conversing and all. A lot of people don’t know that, aside from business management, I also studied marketing so I like to talk. If I had a podcast, I’d definitely talk for 3 or 4 days.

Making sales pitches is part of the life of a marketer, and if Davido had to do that professionally, he thinks it would have been second nature. It’s part of being an artist, to me. I could talk and talk, but some people don’t like to talk.

When people meet me, I like to have conversations, and I’d like to know things. I like information. If you see me at home, I’m always researching something. I watch the news a lot when I wake up, I’d have CNN on the television downstairs.

I’m a very informative person, and I feel like if I [weren’t] fully doing music, I’d definitely be into something like journalism in a way. I like to let people know what I’m working on and all. Some people ask me why I get the most follows; it’s because I tap in and I’m always working.

The song Titanium on 18 April 2025-released 5ive album had the American singer Chris Brown on it. The latter, according to the BBC, was arrested at Manchester’s Lowry Hotel on Thursday, 15 May and was later charged over the alleged assault, which is said to have happened at the Tape club in London’s Mayfair in 2023.

Brown, 36, the report says, was alleged to have used a bottle to cause grievous bodily harm to a music producer, Abe Diaw, which could derail earlier plans with Davido. What are they supposed to do together next year?

Davido and Chris Brown had big plans for 2026, including a joint album and a double-continent tour across Europe and Africa. Davido confirmed that the project was already in motion, emphasising that their collaboration was based on a strong personal bond rather than industry bureaucracy.

The album was expected to blend Afrobeats with R&B, continuing their successful partnership seen in previous hits like Blow My Mind and Sensational. The tour, tied to the album’s release, was set to be a major cultural bridge between African and Western music, further cementing Davido’s role as a global force in Afrobeats.

However, with Chris Brown’s recent legal troubles, the future of their collaboration remains uncertain. While Davido has not publicly addressed any changes to their plans, the situation could potentially impact scheduling and promotional efforts.

The 36-year-old Brown, before his arrest, was in Manchester ahead of his planned tour of the UK in June and July, with dates at the city’s Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester and the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
