Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tems, Asake earn 2026 BET Awards nominations

Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tems and Asake secure major BET nods as Afrobeats continues its global award momentum in 2026.

Nigerian music is once again at the centre of global attention as Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tems, and Asake land major nominations for the 2026 BET Awards, reinforcing just how far Afrobeats has pushed into the heart of global pop culture.

The nominations, announced ahead of the June 28 ceremony in Los Angeles, set the stage for another high-stakes night where Nigerian stars are expected to go head-to-head with some of the biggest names in American music.

For Wizkid and Asake, a joint nomination in the Best Group category adds a new layer to their growing musical chemistry, one that has been feeding into a global Afrobeats wave already dominating charts, playlists, and stadium stages worldwide.

Tems continues her unstoppable run on the international scene with three nominations, a clear sign of her evolution from breakout star to global heavyweight. She is up for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, BET Her for First, and the Viewers’ Choice Award for Raindance alongside UK rapper Dave, placing her in one of the most competitive fields of the night.

Burna Boy also returns to the BET spotlight with another major nomination in the Best Collaboration category for WGFT with American rapper Gunna, extending a long history of recognition at the awards, where he has helped redefine how African music is received on a global stage.

The BET Awards, run by Black Entertainment Television, remain one of the most influential platforms celebrating Black music and culture worldwide. But in recent years, the show has become something bigger for African artists, especially Nigerians, a global proving ground where Afrobeats no longer appears as a “regional sound” but as a central force in mainstream music.

That shift is not new, but it is accelerating. Wizkid remains one of Africa’s most decorated BET winners, Burna Boy has repeatedly turned nominations into international wins, and artists like Davido, Tems, 2Baba, D’banj, Ice Prince, and Ayra Starr have all carved out space on the global stage through the same platform.

In 2025, Ayra Starr’s Best International Act win added another layer to Nigeria’s growing dominance at the awards, confirming a pattern that has become hard to ignore: Nigerian artists are no longer just part of the conversation; they are helping lead it.

And while music remains the loudest story, Nigeria’s cultural footprint at BET stretches even further, with actors like Ayo Edebiri, Cynthia Erivo, and Damson Idris also earning nominations across major acting categories, showing how deeply Black excellence now runs across borders, industries, and audiences.

As the 2026 ceremony approaches, one thing is already clear: Nigeria is not just attending the BET Awards anymore. It is competing at the very top of it.
