Yemi Alade’s first live Afcon football match wearing Super Eagles jersey

The singer has been curating many of her first-time encounters watching a live football match. Particularly, at a competition where she was the headline artiste opening the contest to the world.

Before she finally got the opportunity on Saturday, 13 January 2024, the Nigerian Afropop singer Yemi Alade had long been dreamy about an African Cup of Nations tournament performance, so when that finally came it brought on quite an excitement.

Her Afcon journey started the moment she walked out of the players’ tunnel, and partied to the centre of the Stade Olympique Alessane Ouattara stadium in Abidjan. It was there that the “Mamapiano” connected with her contemporaries to recite the ‘Akwaba’ theme song that ignited the charm of the competition’s host Côte d’Ivoire as being hospitable.

And so the Yemi Alade and friends opener only favoured Côte d’Ivoire who triumphed 2 – 0 over their opponent Guinea Bissau.

The next game was the Super Eagles’ match against Equatorial Guinea which ended in a single-digit draw between the teams and the singer was sitting in the bleachers watching as the contest unfolded.

Luckily, her team emerged with a draw and will be looking to face their next challenge Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday.

Yemi Alade summed up her experiences in one Instagram post, writing “It’s my first time watching a live match at a stadium” and the final feedback seemed like it was worth it.

The sequence of arriving at the stadium in her transport and signing up for entry tags was all documented on her IG which is helping fans keep up her journey while she is away in Abidjan.

None of Yemi Alade’s exploits has gotten past other celebrities. They mostly responded with comments praising her accomplishments while hoping for more to come.
